Hi all
This particular issue has been bugging me for ages but I kept forgetting to post about it: why is it that some parts have a different page layout (usually system spacing) than others, even after all parts have been regenerated? I've found this to occur with virtually all band scores I work with and I have to check each part to ensure that the system spacing is the same. My default setting (in the Parts setup) for Distance Between Systems is 76 EVPUs but when parts are generated, often this ends up being a completely different number in the resulting parts. Some parts even have different spacing altogether! All of my page setup settings end up being correctly configured in my Parts EXCEPT for system margins and spacing.

So I guess there are 2 issues:
1) Why do generated parts NOT use the page setup that I configure in the Document\Page Format\Parts window? And,
2) Why do some parts in the same score have different system spacing than other parts?

HOWEVER, if I use the Redefine Pages command in the Page Layout tool menu and apply it to all parts from my score, all of the parts end up being correct i.e. they use my pre-configured Parts settings.

What's going on with this? Am I missing something about which settings are used when Parts are generated?

That is strange. Are you using the "Generate Parts" function after Page Format/Parts has been set up? The latter only affects "future" parts (in the document). Since "Redefine Pages" clears it up, this may be what's going on.

Which program and version are you using, by the way?

Sorry, have just edited my sig to state that I use Finale 2014c on Mac.

It doesn't matter whether I "Generate Parts" before or after Page Format/Parts has been set up....the results are still the same i.e. incorrect system margins and spacing but all the other options are right. For example, I've just been experimenting with different Page Format/Parts options and then generating new parts: each time, the system margins and spacing are wrong but a "Redefine Pages" fixes this.

I think I need to submit a support ticket.

Thanks Motet!

Any pattern as to which parts come out wrong?

I have had this issue forever with both my own files and files sent to me by others. Page 1 is usually fine and then other pages have systems on top of each other. It is random and does happen with all parts.

I chalk it up to another bug that MakeMusic ignores. I have also given up entirely on reporting bugs as it is just not worth it. I spend 8-12 hours everyday with Finale and could report all day, but since they never fix them I see no point.

Yep, the second page of parts is usually where the most obvious problems are with system margins. However, I've been using Finale a lot more recently and the system margins with every part are screwed up - there doesn't seem to be any pattern. Many of my Parts are configured to have 75 EVPUs distance between systems but when Parts are generated, the actual distance can be anything from 3 to 76 or so. I don't think it's ever greater than that.

This should be so easy to fix.

Go to Manage Parts > Part Creation Preferences. Is "Space Systems Evenly" checked? If so, uncheck.
