Greetings,

I am trying to use Finale to prepare orchestrations.

Take the violin: since my sample player has one midi sound per channel, I would like to set one MIDI channel to be an arco sample, one to be a tremolo sample, and one to be a pizzicato sample.  In a given staff, then, in the Instruments window, I would set layer 1 to be arco, layer 2 to be pizzicato, and layer 3 to be tremolo by setting them to MIDI channels 1, 2, and 3, respectively.

Then I would like to place articulations in my score.  And finally, I would like to run a script that looks across a stave, and sets all those notes with a pizzicato articulation mark to layer 2 (and so play the pizzicato sample), and all notes with tremolo articulation mark to layer 3 (and so play the tremolo sample).

This seems as if it should be easy to do with Finalescript, and probably has been done many times by people preparing orchestrations.

Does anybody have such a script handy?

By the way, if someone has a better suggestion to better play different samples for the same instrument on one stave, please let me know.  That is my end goal, and the above is merely how I have figured out how to do it so far.

Regards,

Louis Nelson

I found the answer, so I'll post it here in case it might be useful.  Summarized from this post:

To change samples by changing MIDI channels on one stave, create a Text Expression with a Playback Type of Channel.
