I have just recently decided to dip into Finale script and see if it is a long term alternative to the things I do in QuicKeys. So far virtually nothing seems to work.
The following script (run after selecting a region) fails at almost every step. i have tried inserting // at the beginning of some lines to deactivate them and see if I can isolate the problem.

The purpose of the script is to select a section of music entered in treble clef, transpose it and change to bass clef so that the notes retain the same staff position.

menu item "transpose"

click radio "diatonically"

click radio "down"

pop-up "sixth" near "interval"

type 1 near "plus"

uncheck "preserve*"

button "OK"

clef tool

press 4

What happens is

menu item "transpose" WORKS FINE

click radio "diatonically" DOESN'T SELECT THE BUTTON

click radio "down" WORKS FINE

pop-up "sixth" near "interval" DOESN'T SELECT ANYTHING IN THE MENU. SOMETIMES FREEZES FINALE

type 1 near "plus" DOESN'T ENTER A 1 IN THE FIELD

uncheck "preserve*" DOESN'T UNCHECK THE BOX IF IT IS CHECKED ON openING

button "OK" DOESN'T CLOSE THE WINDOW

clef tool NEVER GO THIS FAR TO TEST IT

press 4 SAME

It's such a shame that MM doesn't support Finalescript a lot more. It could such a powerful, useful tool!

Not sure if it helps, but when a script stops working, I use synonyms for the commands that don't work. Sometimes that works for me.

further update:
it works once. If I want it to work again I have to quit and re-boot Finale.

Behavior is similar with my scripts. Sometimes they work. Sometimes they don't.

Looks like Sibelius, by the way, has a really nice scripting language, Manuscript, with a rigorous syntax, not ad hoc like Finalescript, where one is forced to guess or dig things out of examples. Users easily write and share Manuscript macros. It seems like something like this would be good for Finale, extending its usefulness and thus attracting more users. I hope they consider it when they redo the code.

I whole-heartedly agree.
