Hi, I just upgraded to Finale 25 from 2014.5, and I've discovered that my keyboard shortcuts for articulations and expressions aren't working. For example, if I want to put a fermata on a note, I should be able to hold "F" on the keyboard while double clicking on the note while in the articulation tool to get a fermata, without having to scroll through the articulations list menu. When I open the articulations list, the shortcuts are still there (the fermata has an "F" listed in the corner of the box). Currently, neither articulation nor expression shortcuts are working. I haven't found any settings in any of the menus I can change to enable this. = Suggestions?

I'm on Windows 10 Anniversary.

Sorry, poparad, but I am not experiencing the difficulty you describe.  With the Articulation Tool selected, to enter a fermata, all I do is hover the mouse pointer over a note, hold down F, and click.  You don't need to double click.  If you do, you get two fermatae (?) superimposed.

Do make sure you're holding down F first, but it sounds like you're an experienced user. Also, try resetting the preferences, since I would imagine they changed from 2014.5 to 25.

(Plural would be fermate (Italian) or fermatas (English).)

Sorry, I misspoke: single click, not double click.

Regardless, the issue persists, and a reboot did not solve it. The shortcuts still work in 2014.5.

And yes, I've been a Finale user since 2001. I've never been aware of a global option to enable or disable the shortcuts, though.

Like I say, try resetting your preferences. That will probably fix it.

OK, I just reset my preferences and the issue still persists.

I'm sorry to hear that. What if you reprogram a metatool (press Shift + F, then select the fermata)? Since it sounds like it's already assigned to the fermata, you might also try programming F to be something else, then back to fermata, if the simple reprogramming doesn't work.

You are in the right layer, and the cursor is a simple arrow (indicating pointing to a note) rather than a double-lined one, right?

I agree, layers is probably the culprit.

No layers. I tried it again on a default template to be sure. If I double click the note, the articulation menu pops up and I can successfully assign a fermata, but the shortcut method won't work on the same note.

OK, I may have found a remedy: If I launch Finale and choose "run as administrator," it works. Finale 2014 always required me to run it this way, or it wouldn't open. Sadly, I was looking forward to that annoying confirmation pop up going away in the new version, but I may have to continue dealing with it.

Sounds like a file permissions issue.

You might ask customer support--it may matter whether you run the installer as administrator.

I did a complete uninstall/reinstall as administrator and nothing has changed. The shortcuts are still broken unless I run the program manually in administrator mode each time. I'll see what support has to say.

I have Finale 25 and Windows 10...the same issue is occurring on my computer as well. If you run the program without administrator rights, you can hold the ctrl key and the shortcut key you desire and then click the note and it will work. It is a Windows 10 thing that I have not found a way around yet.
