The reactions appear in many places on this forum. Maybe a centralized poll like this one could show MakeMusic how the users feel.

I hope you folks are voting in the poll and not just responding with a "YES".

It should be kept alive until it is replaced with something at least as good, preferably better, where the archive of all this great information can be transferred.  The new forum is not a viable candidate.

As mentioned on the Mac side, these forums are more than a place for information exchange. They are a community. I've been checking them almost daily ever since I first learned of them. They contain not only technical support, but humor, information, and surprises. They let members' personalities come through. Members are as responsive to simple requests as they are to highly esoteric and specialized needs. For years these forums have consistently been an element of the partnership that occurs between MakeMusic and its users. MakeMusic's policy of letting members comment without imposing any censorship as long as civility and courtesy is maintained has also helped foster the unique qualities of these forums. To pick out just one example, years ago, there were many upset comments that MakeMusic was abandoning the Mac platform (proved untrue in the course of time--and that was before the major Mac turnaround).

Losing these forums have consequences that are much greater than would seem as the result of a limited decision about relocating technical help, not only because of the limitations of the replacement as discussed in many other entries, but also because these forums have grown into something much richer and more complex than just assistance forums.

So, I also ask MakeMusic to reconsider and continue these forums.

Graeme

Two votes for 'no' on the Windows side, one on the Mac side. But none of these 'no' voters seems to care to add anything at all in any of the discussions on the closing of the forum. In my view that qualifies these 'no' votes as nothing but trolling. The 'no' voters have yet to prove me wrong.

Seems to be that the tech support department has a vested interest in keeping this forum operational. With the limited options available (non-functional official site, finaleforum.com and the Facebook group), they're going to get a very increased volume of issues that used to be handled here.

Situation on December 8, 2016. The numbers speak for themselves :

Should this forum be kept alive ?
PC poll :
Yes : 75 (96,2%)
No : 3 (3,8 %)

Mac poll :
Yes : 54 (96,4%)
No : 2 (3,6%)

TOTALS :
Yes : 129 (96,3%)
No : 5 (3,7%)

(N.B. : many comments to support the Yes, not 1 supporting the No)

MakeMusic, do you get the message ?

Another reason we need this forum: I would have had no idea that there was a new version of Finale available if I had not read about it on this forum. The automatic "check for new version" function failed to detect it. Nowhere else where I regularly go on the net would have given me this information.

BTW, the upgrade went flawlessly.

I voted yes. Of course. Why wouldn't they keep this forum? It's been here for years. I've used Finale since the early 90s but I'll often go many months between times that I use it. I am always returning here for expert help as I "relearn" Finale again and again. LOL

I did notice, recently, that there is another, newer forum available, but I pretty much ignored it and just came here --- a familiar place I know is helpful.
