I have tried all the given formulas for creating a pickup measure - there must be something wrong with my Finale software because under my options menu/document settings, there is no "set pickup" option. Also, in the "edit regions" of the measure tool I have no "Style" button that others have referred to . . AND when I change my measure region to 2-999 or 0-999 it doesn't work. I am using Finale 2000. Does someone know something the other posts might have missed?

I am using Finale 2002. I remember that the "set pickup" dialog box was accessed elsewhere in earlier versions of Finale, but I don't remember where it was. Take a look in the Index file (FinIX.pdf), and go for the word "pickup". The hyperlinks should take you to a description about pickups and "how to get there".

I see no "Style" button in the Measure Number dialog box (Finale 2002). What was that button supposed to do?

Setting up a measure number region that includes "Measure 2 through 999" works without any problems for me (Finale 2002). But "Measure 0 through 999" is not possible, since a Finale document does not contain a "Measure 0".

In Finale 2000, the pickup setting is found in Options > Document Settings > Music Options

Perhaps a better way to do this is to set the opening measure to the length of the pickup - quarter, eighth note etc. - and use the alternate notation option to ignore the change for printing. The reason that this is perhaps better is that it is occasionally necessary to split a measure in the middle of the piece and this works for that situation and the pickup measure option does not.
