Playback fails when I use the Trill Tool in SmartShape palette, so I use the option in the Articulation Tool.

In the attached sample, I want the inflected trill to alternate between G and the auxilary note that is A#. Can someone lend me a hand and explain how I might get Finale to play back the trill interval of 1-1/2 tones? I temporarily slowed the part to 16 BPM for more distinct recognition of the trill pitch.

Try the Smart Shape Trill with the sharp above it.

P.S.: Oh yeah. We've been through this before. An articulation is needed for just Layer 2. However, a bug with HP confuses Layers. I don't think there is an easy solution, or even one that works.

This works, but it seems Layer 1 is picking up the trill somehow and adding it's own trill note. The old confused HP bug.

P.S.: Ah. Take out the extension and then you're okay.

Further discovery: create the extension as an articulation and then layer 1 is unaffected.

I think the previous problem I had with trills was no playback at all. In this instance, I needed an inflected trill with an interval of 1-1/2 tones between the trilled note and the auxilary note.

Because finale was erroneously playing back the F# as a trill and drowning out the B note trill, I got confused. Zuill, you spun your magic again and got the right interval to play. When I added a wavy line with the Trill Extension tool, playback became erratic again. So I used a fake wavy live, using the Custom Line tool. Now all is well.

MakeMusic ignoring these bugs gives me no incentive to upgrade. I'd rather see next year's version bug-free than offer new features...improve Finale's compatibility with Windows, like the the faulty time stamp of "Finale.exe" that causes crashes, especially when closing a *.mus file (exception code c0000005, violating normal runtime). Sigh!

Thank you for your valuable help.
