Is anyone else as frustrated with batching and printing as I am with Finalescript?

1. With batching printing I have to put a "wait 1" and "process all open docs" to stop it from printing double. Why can't this just be put into the code of the plugin so we don't have to?

2. With batching, I want to select the folder for each job which used to be the case with the old Finalescript. The current state is...
-Go into the FS Options menu
-Uncheck the Source
-Quit Finale
-Restart Finale
-Select Batch print in FS
-It prompts me to select a folder.
-I select a folder
...for each JOB!

Sure, I could create a special folder for printing and throw the files in there for each job but I have way too many files to do in a day that I'm bound to make a very bad mistake.

Is there anyway that the Source in the Options dbx can always stay unchecked?

Today I wasted tons of paper and a lot of time because of these two issues, due to the fact that I'm using a friend's machine that does not have all of the little unknown and undocumented workarounds I have put into Finalescript over the years. It is also a good reminder of why I used to use Quickeys batch printing (highlight folder in the Finder and fire off the sequence) but I would prefer to use Finalescript.

Is there anyway these things can be addressed Robert or am I missing a different workaround that I'm unaware of?

Thanks for reading.

I don't get this at all. I specify the folder the first time, and it processes all documents in that folder. I also only get 1 printing of each file.

The script reads:

process folder
print

Correct. It will process the documents in that folder but it stays locked to that folder so I need to uncheck the option every time and quit Finale to reset to select another folder.

Odd that you are not having this issue. Everyone I've talked with in the past few months (actually years) has the exact same problem. Any insight Robert?

Thanks,

Why do you need to quit and restart? You can just change the location of the folder in the FS options.

Yes, I realize I can change it in the options dbx but it's an extra step that seems unnecessary especially when spending an entire day just doing a lot of different folders of batch processing. I would prefer to be prompted when I start the process to select the folder every time, not have to go into the Options and select it then go back to FS to "hope" that the new settings took (they don't always go to the right folder consistently).

What I am asking for is no different than the way FS 1.0 worked and the first version of FS 2.0. It was perfect in this respect. So...Robert, is there a way to get this functionality back into FS.

Steve

Finale does support Applescript (minimally), so you could construct an Applescript or Automator Service to do batch printing, which might be easier.

EDIT: Attached is a Service that will Batch print any Finale files inside a folder. (The file is zipped, so add ".zip" to the filename after downloading it, and then unzip it. Place the file in either <user>/Library/Services or /Library/Services (which you may need to create). The workflow should then be available in the Services menu (under the Application name's menu, or on a right-click.)

It prints the files to the default printer.

To use the Service, select any folder in the Finder, and then click on the Service.

Thanks Wiggy I've setup this Applescript before but QuicKeys is much more efficient and easier to work with. With QK it can even select your printer or use the default printer and even set PDF options and so many more possibilities than Applescript with Finale. But I would still like to see if I can regain the older functions that used to work in FS and have become "buggy" (in my terms) and progressively do not work as Finale grows. It seems that parts of FS do not grow in parallel with new Finale releases.

The purpose of this post is to find out if Robert might have some insight on the shortcomings of FS that used to work but don't work anymore. I'm not sure he reads these forums anymore so maybe I'll just email him.

Thanks again for your perseverance Wiggy.

Guys,

The Finalescript commands below will prompt you for a source and destination folder as the script is run.
Hope this helps

query source folder
query destination folder

Excellent! That's what I'm looking for. I thought there had to be some way to do this.

Thanks,
