In case anyone hasn't noticed, there's an update with a couple of features I find handy, like correct octave transpositions for certain instruments (like contrabass and piccolo) and a measure number bar for in Scroll or Studio view (a little like what Dorico has), plus a number of welcome bug fixes. Unfortunately for me, I might be able to use it on my MacBookPro but on the MacPro it won't even start up. FWIW I've attached a crash file.

I've tried everything I can think of to reinstall version 25.1 and I keep ending up with 25.2 (and crashes on startup). I've tried deleting all the preference files as well as the program file and every time I reinstall either version 25.0 or 25.1, I end up with version 25.2. I've even used Time Machine to recover the program file I had yesterday and the system still thinks it's 25.2. I'm really at a loss, and I'm damn tired of MM not testing their software properly before they release it.

Hi Vaughan,

With my Mac Pro, I have to make sure that I stick some headphones into the headphone port on the Mac Pro, otherwise Finale will crash at startup. Have you tried that?!

I have not yet performed the software update on my MacPro, but was about to...! Let me know what happens with you!

Cheers,
Hector Pascal.

I have downloaded 25.2. Before hitting the “Install and Relaunch” button I decided to check the Forum. Deeply frightened by the news from Vaughan.
How do I get rid of the “Updating Finale - Ready to Install” window? It doesn’t trash, and won’t go away.
If I shut down and restart will it load 25.2, or am I safe and can wait to see if others report similar troubles as Vaughan? Where is this installer on my system?

Wondering the same thing. Is the 2014.5 missing audio device bug back? If so, it's a bug that only affects Macs without an audio device connected or a built in microphone. Normally, the new Mac Pro and the Mini.

Anything with a 1/8" jack should work including a raw jack--if that doesn't work, it's a new bug.

Putting something into the headphone jack doesn't help. I'm thinking that something must have gone wrong with the installation on the MacPro, as it works fine on the MacBookPro. I wrote to MM and asked for a list of what exactly got changed by the installation and where where it is. I'll then try removing everything relevant and reinstalling it.

It looks like Finalescript is to blame. You could try removing the Finalescript plug-in from the Application bundle.

Could you see that in the crash report, Wiggy? If so, that would be an easy fix. I'd removed it before. 25.2 might have reinstalled it. I'll give that a try as soon as I get home. I wonder why it didn't affect the MacBookPro, though.

BTW, what do you mean by 'application bundle'? Isn't it in the plugins, or do I have to turn on View Package Contents and remove it from within the application?

Wiggy saves the day again! It was simply the Finalescript plugin which was causing the problem. Strangely, the MacBookPro isn't affected by it. Version 25.2 is now working well on the MacPro.

25.2 is working fine on my iMac. Not pleased with the changes to playback but, apparently, not a bug--they did that on purpose.

Hi Vaughan:
I hope you did open a support case on the issue with the crash on the MacPro. Do you have a different set of Finalescripts on the MP that you don't on the MBP? I would be curious if I can crash Finale with your set of Finalescripts. If you are willing, please PM your collection of scripts. They can be found here:
~/Library/Application Support/MakeMusic/Finale/Finalescript

I am also curious what the version of Finalescript was that you took out of the Plug-ins folder.
If you select the Finalescript plug-in, press Cmd + i to get File Info, the version will appear.
If it isn't 25.2.0.1, then that is likely the problem of having a new plug-in out of sync with the app. We had to build a new Finalescript to fix the linked part keyboard shortcuts not always working.

Cheers,
Michael

OK, Michael.

Imagine this question had been posted on the new forum. If I had read it yesterday, and went back today, there would have been nothing to tell me that (1) another post had been added to the thread, and (2) who had commented last. I am not in the habit of remembering "number of comments" nor do I want my email cluttered with notifications that someone had responded to the thread.

So, what are the chances that I would have read it?

@ Michael: I opened a case about this with MM including the crash file and support suggested only that I remove Finale and reinstall it. As you can see above, it was Wiggy who solved the problem. Without this forum I would still be futzing around with installation and a non-functional update. Can you imagine how disturbed and frustrated we are that you're closing down this forum against our will instead of porting it over to a new one? Other companies have been able to do this in similar situations with similarly outdated website software. Do you really believe that the new forum can hold a candle to this one?

Hi Vaughn:
We've tracked down the issue to an incomplete Finalescript bundle. You should be getting a new Finalescript plug-in to try via the case system. We're also posting a Knowledge Base Article.

Wiggy is a great resource to the community. Thanks Dr. Wiggy for helping sort out this problem. Yes, the current ZD community is not like this forum. I am sorry the news has been so upsetting to some members of this forum. We're working to address the limitations on ZenDesk so that the new community will be as helpful. I do agree, we're not there yet, but I have confidence we can get there.

Cheers,
