For some odd reason the 5 on my numpad does not work with Finale 25. It works fine with 2012 and with 2014.4, and obviously while typing on this forum: 5555555

All the other numbers work when I use speedy entry, so I can get every note value EXCEPT the quarter note.

Has anyone else come across this problem?

The 5 works perfectly fine with absolutely every other application I have. The only one with a problem is Finale 25.

Finale (started with ver. 3.0) using 2012 (2014 has been shelved for its lack of support for older Garritan libraries) under Windows 8.1
basically ALL Garritan libraries, plus XSample Chamber Ensemble.

Does it work in Simple? (Probably not, but I thought I'd ask.)

Did you check in Speedy Options to see if it's still registered to that key?

Try toggling NumLock?

as I said, it works perfectly fine in all other programs, including previous versions of Finale.
Yes, I've toggled numlock on and off and on and off and rebooted and kicked the computer and sacrificed a virgin lamb to the pagan goat god... there's not much I haven't tried.

I don't see in Speedy options where there might be a specific setting for registering keys to actions.

EDIT:
and wanted to add that it also does not work in Simple entry (which I never use anyways).

Pressing the 5 key simply does.. nothing. I may as well press on my nose for all the effect it causes.

The mystery deepens.
I tried adding text with the number 5 in it, using my numpad, all numbers worked, entering the correct numerals - except the number 5. Just like with note/rest entry, it simply did nothing.

The 5 key works for me. I guess you could try recreating finale.ini.

Can you try a different keyboard?

good suggestion.. unfortunately, it didn't work. No difference at all.

The strange thing is that this problem only appears with Finale 25.
Absolutely every other program I use it works perfectly fine, including both previous versions of Finale I have installed.

Uninstall and then reinstall F25?

I'd rather avoid re-installing, since this is the demo version and I have limited time to continue trying it out.

Can you look at TG tools' Menu Shortcuts and see if 5 got added in there by mistake. If Finale 25 still uses the registry for this it shouldn't make a difference since it works with earlier Finale. But it doesn't hurt to look.

Oh my god! that did it!!!

Somehow, there was some unusable shortcut ("menu item is not available") in the TGTools plugin.

As soon as I deleted it the problem went away!

Thank-you all for your efforts.

At least now I can actually TEST Finale 25 and see if it works or not for me!

Oddly, earlier I started writing a post about TGTools Menu Shortcuts and stopped because I figured it should affect all versions of Finale equally. But just now, it occurred to me that v25 is 64 bit, so I'm guessing the TGTools Menu Shortcuts for earlier versions of Finale are stored in a different place.

If you use TGTools bundle, I found that it copies shortcuts (from earlier version of FInale), but what worse it creates new ones...
Please be careful if you remove it from Finale 25 you will loose something in 2014 (or earlier).

Piotr

Full beta of TGTools 3.0 (for FInale 25) stores shortcuts in separate place.
