Just had exactly the same response from the this forum, and decided to reboot my router. Thank heavens for dynamic IP addresses!
Brought back horrible memories of when I really WAS banned by a former sysop, for (hopefully long-since-healed) differences with one other, current, active user!

I agree, it is frustrating. Along with deploying Finale today, we worked to restore functionality to the forums.
As forum users are still being intermittent banned, we will continue to work to address the problem.

It's probably not necessary to ban the spammers, if that helps--it's likely a drive-by thing.

I did not know at that time that it was a general wide-spread problem. So, yes, my first reaction when I got the "you have been banned" message was one of indignation and insult.
I too run a forum and can ban individual IP addresses--and it has never gone berzerk and banned large groups wholesale like this.
