In these cases, I load the PDFs into ColorSync (Utilities) and run both the B&W and the Create Generic PDFX-3 filters. This has always taken care of it (for me). Vaughan

From the Print dialog, use the PDF pop up menu, but instead of “Save as PDF…”, choose “open PDF in Preview”.
From the document window in Preview, hit ⌘S to save the PDF.
You end in a directory dialog box with a pop up menu for Quartz-filter.
