Generally, a 4/4 time signature gives me a beat chart with up to 8 handles. Even if I am in cut time, if I set it up as 4/4, displayed as 2/2, abbreviated, I have them all.

My current chart refuses to give me more than 4 handles in the cut section. I have set the TS from the drop down, manually, with and without the abbreviation. I have cleared MIDI data (for no apparent reason), and copied into a new document.

I have quit and restarted Finale, logged out and logged in, restarted the computer. Nothing seems to help.

Any help appreciated!

Run Music Spacing - that should update the beat charts (?).

Yeah, this is chronic in my files. It makes my Slash Notation all wonky, among other problems.

I select All in the Selection Tool, hit 5 for beat spacing (which clears the superfluous beat charts), then 4 again for proper music spacing. (I usually set Manual Spacing to "clear" for this).

If you need more nuanced than this, I think TGTools has a feature to clear extraneous beat handles, but I've never needed it.

Just to clarify things: Beat Spacing gives a handle for each beat. Note Spacing gives a handle for each note.

I just ran into this myself, Mike. I have always had automatic note spacing engaged and therefore always seen a handle for every note. Recently I started working with it off and many of them went away!
