I use SmartMusic 8.5.1 with my students with no problem with Windows XP and the Audigy 2 Platinum EX. Just make sure to have currently-updated drivers from Creative's website installed, and the current version of DirectX (9.0c) from Microsoft's Windows Update and it runs quite well.
