Thanks, Vaughan. I see the distinctions and the unavoidability of what you are explaining. Perhaps I, like Mike, tend to think of AUL and AMS as a pair. I will see what happens when I turn AUL on...

Yet nonetheless there are times in some of the cases I mentioned above where update layout applied automatically has messed up royally some of my careful formatting. Sometimes one doesn't notice it...
