Getting rid of smart word extensions
The option “Use Smart Word Extensions” is document specific. If you de-select the option in the file you use for your new documents, then all your new documents will have “Use Smart Word Extensions”...

Unlinking does not let you delete. However, unlinking allows you to show/hide, or to position differently (like e. g. outside the right page edge in the score, and in the page in the linked part)....
