Hi,

I'm composing for concert bands, so I usually have a lot of files in my folders.
I decided to self publish my work, and I need to write at the bottom of each first page the copyright things, the "forbidden to copy" sentence, and the Id number of the work.
Is there a script that would let it automatic ?

I can't use the search and replace because for the moment, there is nothing at the bottom.

Thanks for your help.

Alex

If you insert a copyright field into a Document Style document, then it will be included in any new document from the Setup Wizard.

Just customize the search & replace script that comes with Finale.
Put your original text in quotation marks after the word search, put your new text in quotation marks after the word replace.

1) What if I want to insert three different informations (one on left, one in center, one on right all on the bottom of the page) like in my second example ?
The solution search and replace will work only with the first one.
And how can I force the text to be on the left and justification center (for example) ?

2) What if I want to include a text with 3 lines, does it work with the search and replace feature ?

You can do three separate search & replace, doing each line individually. All three can be in the same script.
I've never messed with justification and scripts. Don't know if it works or not.
You can script multiple lines of text, use the line break keystroke in the script to force the text onto the next line.
(I don't remember exactly what the line break keystroke is. It might be ^l. Check the documentation to be sure.)

Ok thanks for reply.

The thing I don't understand : If I use the first search and replace, that's ok, I'm replacing my copyright with the new one, but, if I use a second time the search and replace thing, what m I searching ? The first copyright info is already changed, and I don't want to change the new one ...

Do you understand what I mean ?

I need to add something instead of replacing, because I want to have 3 text blocks instead of one.

I'm sorry if I'm not understanding your problem.

If you're looking for a script to create new text blocks, I haven't had much luck with that.
If you're looking for a script to take your existing text and change it from one line to three lines, then use the line break keystroke to make this happen.

It easy to insert a text box and set it's attributes for where to place it. The problem I find is getting the text in as you need it there. You have those 3-4 lines of text and I was unable to get them correct in the File info via Type command. I can't seem to find a way to "Press Enter/ Return" command once I am with the cursor there.

If the text doesn't change you can create a script for the entire text manually

Text Tool
double click
press "T"
press "o"
press "u"
press "s"
press " "
press "d"
press "r"
press "o"
press "i"
//until the end of the first line, then
press enter
press "the letters of the second line"
press enter
press "the letters of the next line" .. etc

menu item Frame Attributes
set the frame where you want it

menu item "Text/Justification/Right" if you need the text aligned to the right
menu item "Text/Justification/Center" if you need the text aligned by the center

and do the same for the other two text boxes.

It would be much faster if there would be a way to separate lines in File Info windows like, where you can use the Type command, and then just insert it in the text box instead of typing it letter by letter.

To start a double clicking command you either move the mouse somewhere on the score (not in a window like script Editor plug-in) or create a quick launch combination.

I have scripts that create & position new text boxes.  They require knowing the text in advance.  Please advise if that technique would work for you.

File Information fields can have multiple lines of information.  You can script both the inputting of text into these fields & the creation of text boxes using them.  However, you are stuck with the default formatting for those fields.  In my experience, Text Search & Replace does NOT work with File Information fields but perhaps others have had success with this.

I forgot to mention that if your text information is the same from file to file, you can script the entire task.  It's a little tricky but it does work.  Let me know if this is of interest to you.

Dear UCG,

Could you give me a rough idea how your method works in Finalescript, especially creating the text boxes.

Many thanks

Back in the post, and would be happy to have your script to insert new text boxes.

Thanks in advance.

Not sure if this thread is still alive.
I use a script like this one to insert text boxes:

process folder
// zoom
text tool
menu item "view/zoom/other..."
type "200"
button "ok"
// insert text
double click
type raw "your information goes here"
press return
type raw "and more information if you need it"
wait 1 second
// Setting the font (### Font menus in 2011 are different from 2010 font menus. )
menu item "select all"
menu item "text/font/times new roman/italic"
menu item "text/size/other..."
type "10"
check "fixed size"
button "ok"
// Allocating text to the first page only (as an example)
menu item "Frame Attributes..."
click radio "Page"
popup "Single Page" near "attach to"
press "ok"
//set the alignment and justification
menu item "text/alignment/right"
menu item "text/alignment/bottom*"
menu item "text/justification/right"
//
menu item "view/zoom/other..."
type "100"
button "ok"

A few points.

The purpose of zooming in on the page is to ensure that when the "double click" command is executed it is actually double clicking on part of the page and not on blank space. It is also a sneaky way to call the mouse pointer to the centre of the screen, which is where the zoom dialogue box is located by default.
The "wait 1 second" command after typing a long line of text seems to be necessary, otherwise the script will try to carry on without completing the text.
I think there's an easier way to set the font, but I can't recall it now.
Text alignments can be handled through the Frame Attributes dialogue box, but I ran into a glitch when changing the popup/dropdown menus in the Frame Attributes when running a batch process. To keep it simple, I've just used the corresponding menu items from the text menu. (Alternatively, there's a hack you can use if you really want to change these settings via the Frame Attributes dialogue box).
### Font menus in 2011 now require you to select the style (bold, italic, regular etc.) of many (not all) fonts. If you run this script on 2010 you'll have to chop off the '/italic' part of the font menu item. Fonts can also be handled through the Character Settings dialogue box, although there are now two lists in there that may make scripting difficult.

If your text box is using File Info data, you can just insert that instead of typing it into the newly created text box. If you replace the first section of the script with the following, it will refer to the File Info. I can't get my File Info to accept multiple lines of text, which is limiting. Every time I try to enter text after hitting the return key it just wipes the previous line of text that it just entered. sad

text tool
menu item "File Info..."
type "your information goes here" near "Description"
button "ok"
//
menu item "view/zoom/other..."
type "200"
button "ok"
double click
menu item "text/inserts/description"

Anywho, I hope some of that is of use in some way.
