I routinely save files using a script. I am still using Finale 2010 so the code below may need adjustment in later versions. It is a rather cumbersome process but it does work. The syntax is very important.

Save as
End key
Press Shift + Ctrl + Left Arrow 6
Delete key 30
Press "0"
Press "4"
Press " "
Press Shift "F"
Press "l"
Press " "
Press Shift + "7"
Press " "
Press Shift "P"
Press "i"
Press "c"
Press "c"
Press " "
Press "-"
Press " "
Press Shift + "S"
Press Shift + "R"
Press " "
Press "-"
Press " "
Press "2"
Press "0"
Press "1"
Press "5"
Press "-"
Press "0"
Press "4"
Press "-"
Press "1"
Press "5"
Enter

The statements above accomplish the following:

1.) Initiate Save as dialog box
2.) Start at the END of the filename using the end key because Finale will automatically have the entire existing filename highlighted
3.) Use the backward arrow mechanism to get to the place in the new file name that differs from the original (this may or may not apply to your situation), then highlight and delete the old portion
4.) Enter EVERY character of the new file name individually as "Press "X"" (if something should be capitalized or is a character on a number key obtained by holding down the shift key, the code is "Press Shift + "X"")
5.) "Enter" to save

This script changes the name of a hymn from something like "002 - Psalm 1 - 01 Interim - SR - 2015-04-10" to "002 - Psalm 1 - 04 Fl & Picc - SR - 2015-04-15". My file naming convention uses the number of hymn in the hymnal (002), the title of the hymn (Psalm 1), an instrument group designation (01 Interim), a 2-digit abbreviation that indicates the rhythmic version (SR = simplifed ryhythm) and the date. Since the first part of the existing filename doesn't change ("002 - Psalm 1 - "), the script only replaces the part that does (from "01 Interim - SR - 2015-04-10" to "04 Fl & Picc - SR - 2015-04-15"). Spaces are considered characters so they are coded as "Press " "".

I hope this helps. You will need to adapt this and play around with it to get what you want. This example shows how to save one Finale file as another Finale file with a different name. Your application will require you to execute the file export command and there may be some added steps to arrive at what you intend. Let me know if you're successful.

Thanks,
UCG Musician

Thanks a lot. It is a very interesting script but what I need is to export all open documents to xml and midi format and which stop at each file to write the name for the first time. I get it as well with commands I explain below, but I have to give a click of mouse on the script window to advance to each file.

Process all open docs

Menu item "File/Export/MIDI File"
Menu item "File/Export/MusicXml"
stop
Return

End
