We are trying to use smartmusic 8.5 for the first time and the playback is choppy.  The workstations are PII/350, 192 mb ram, and Win 98SE.  We purchased Audigy sound cards.  I'm just not sure what else to try.

If you haven't already done so, go ahead and contact MakeMusic directly. [email protected]

Before launching SmartMusic, press ctrl+alt+delete to bring up the close program dialog. Turn off everything in there except for Explorer and Systray. This might free up some memory and processor cycles. Start SmartMusic and see if it makes any difference. Also, in the setup wizard, make sure the Audigy is the card that's selected for playback and input. You might also temporarily try specifying no microphone to see if it makes a difference (which would at least identify part of the problem to be addressed).

Windows XP, all updates
