I've had a problem with installing the app since the beginning of May. Now (June 2nd 2009) I still can't use the app, and people at customer support couldn't figure it out how to make it through the app registration stuff online. There are 3 cases of the same problem happening here in Thailand. It seems the company doesn't even care for what happens and has no gut to fix this problem. I and my friends use Macs having Leopard 10.5.6 OS and always get the error of 6005 saying that "there're no subscriptions ready to activate"

Anyone at all if you have any clue for this problem please help me out, so I can use the app.

Thanks

Nuvee

Nuvee,

Looks like you've run afoul of a pretty serious Mac OSX problem. When you (or the Apple store) migrates or images an operating system onto a new or repaired Mac, the usual process keeps the old operating system intact onto a "new" computer (even when it's the same one!). This causes some deeply-buried information about your hardware to be wrong for software such as ours that uses hardware-based software activation over the Internet.

We've had a very small number of customers reporting this problem in Thailand - it might be possible that your Apple retailer is using one "image" of the OSX operating system for any computers they sell or repair. This will unfortunately make SmartMusic unable to activate.

The solution is to reinstall the operating system, choosing the "Archive and Install" option and removing the checkmark from "Preserve Users and Network settings."

The article below provides this information if you need to share it with the Apple retailer who provides your technical service (if you don't have the OSX installation DVD).

Ouch! That sounds nasty!

Nuvee, if I were you, I would be ANGRY at that Mac retailer. It's pretty bad business practice on their part to be pushing out images of an OS, instead of using discs to install it the right way. I'm surprised that there haven't been more problems with that machine.

Good luck with that reinstall, let us know how it turns out. I definitely want to hear the results.

I've also been using SmartMusic in Thailand.

My similar errors have been corrected by setting the time zone of my computer to Eastern (US) prior the activation/registration. Sometimes, even when running SM, I'll get a message if I haven't changed it first. I suppose the timestamp of some activities gets confused when it is so far off.

I hope this helps!

I don't buy this. New Apple Macs come from the factory with the OS already installed. There's no need for the retailer to image the disk.
I would suspect that the actual cause is the nature of the "hardware-based" activation that MakeMusic uses. Such systems invariably rely on "security through obscurity". There are also problems with Finale authorisations since Apple's 10.5.7 system update. Previous versions of Finale also had problems authorising when running under various different OS versions.

Also, a HUGE warning: If you de-select the checkbox "Preserve Users and Network Settings", then you will LOSE DATA from your user account, so make sure you have everything backed up first.

A quick glance around the internet shows that MakeMusic authorisations have been cracked by pirates. The only people who are inconvenienced by it are the genuine paying customers. Nice! smilewinkgrin

SmartMusic has not been cracked. After Finale 2004 was released, I saw a huge reduction in the number of pirates online with copies of Finale 2004 or later (2004 being the version the activation system was implemented). I also didn't run into pirated copies of Finale at the university any longer. There definitely is a correlation with how easy you make it to pirate the software.
