I can't get my SmartMusic 2011 to show an assessment. What am I doing wrong?

Abremer,

If you can describe the steps you are taking, we can narrow it down a little more. Not all categories in SmartMusic have assessment available--most notably solo repertoire. Also, even in categories with assessment, not every piece has assessment available for every instrument. There are many variables here, so knowing what music you are opening will help.

Thanks,

I'm opening the Essential Elements 2000 book 1. I know some of them don't have assessment (I've used this program with my students for several years now and the same book). So I made sure that the assessment button was on at the top. I opened a couple different numbers in the book and tried playing them. The microphone was working, I was able to listen to myself from the recording. But the assessment score was 0% every time. No notes registered, nothing turned green or red on any of the exercises I played.

Abremer,

If you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7, try attaching the SmartMusic microphone, restarting the computer, then testing in SmartMusic again. A small number of Vista/Windows 7 machines may not properly register the microphone if mic is not connected at computer startup.

If the problem remains, please submit a support cast at smartmusic.custhelp.com/app/ for technical support based on your exact situation.

Thanks,
