I'm sure this has been answered before but, man, that's a lot of pages to read through.
Anyway;
I'm arranging a piece in 9/8 time (in three) and a nearly all the parts have rests at one point or another, and Finale (2006r3) fills measures with alternating quarter and eighth rests. I know this is the normal way to do it, even though it is more cumbersome than having 1-2 dotted quarter rests. Is there a way for me to tell finale to fill these measures with compound rests instead? Thanks in advance.

Go to Quantization Settings>More, and check Allow Dotted Rests. This may help.

Works great, Thanks! :-)

BTW, the arrangement is "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring" for a Brass Quintet. I always find it easier to work with this selection in 9/8 time instead of the original 3/4.
