My first post on this forum... Woo!!
I am a keen Ukulele player and I frequently compose songs using Tablature.
As you may know, a Ukulele's string positioning is diffent to that of a Guitars's or a a Bass Guitar's.
A Ukulele has 4 strings which ae tuned to G,C,E,A
So TAB looks like:
A---2---|
E---0---|
C---0---|
G---0---| ETC.
The only TAB style's suplied on Notepad are the Guitar and Bass Guitar ones.
Is there anyway of changing the Bass Guitar's TAB String Notation to the Ukulele's?
Thanks,
DK444

With NotePad you will have to create a new document. But first you must tell the Setup Wizard, how to handle Ukulele:
1. In the Folder Component Files, open the text file "instrument.txt", and add the following to the section with fretted instruments (the fretted instruments are in the middle of the text file):
[INS:Ukulele] Name = Ukulele Abbr = Uk. useKeySigs = 1 Transposition = 0 StaffType = standard Clef = treble Patch = 24
[INS:Ukulele TAB] DisplayName = Ukulele [TAB] Name = Ukulele Abbr = Uk. useKeySigs = 1 Transposition = 0 StaffType = tab Clef = tab1 FretInst = Ukulele Patch = 24
2. Next, scroll down to the instrument groups. In the group [GRP:Frets], add this:
Ukulele = x Ukulele TAB = x
3. Finally, scroll down to the instrument order list. In the order list [ORD:Orchestral], add this:
Ukulele = x Ukulele TAB = x
e. g. between Dulcimer and Sitar.
The next time you create a new document, Ukulele and Ukulele (TAB) will be available in the wizard.
The attached file shows an example.

The Ukulele tuning is stored in the Default File (Maestro Font Default.FTM). I'm not sure you can access/edit it in PrintMusic. In Finale you can (of course):
Staff Tool.
Double-click the staff you want as TAB staff. The dialog box Staff Attributes appears.
In the pop up menu "Notation Style:", choose "Tablature", and click the button "Select...". The dialog box Tablature Staff Attributes appears.
If the document was created from Meastro Font Default.FTM, you can find the Ukulele in the pop up menu "Instrument:". If the document was created as a "Document Without Libraries", you have to define the Ukulele tuning, by clicking the button "Edit Instruments...".

Peter Thomsen said...That's not fixed in 2008. Even if you define the TAB staff for a G - C - E - A Ukulele, the chord fretboard displays the chord in D - G - B - E tuning. Peter
Which is the correct tuning for the baritone uke! Soprano, tenor, and concert ukes use the Good Cats Eat Ants tuning. Mike Rosen

I still have it. Could it be combined with Peter's Uke/TAB template, which now shows guitar chords? Mike Rosen

No, this is the one. Could it be combined with your TAB doc? I realize that you probably wouldn't use both the chords and TAB at the same time, but the option would be there. Mike Rosen
