I am looking to outfit a computer lab and practice rooms with MIDI keyboards.  We have Dell computers that run Windows 98.  The lab will service mostly students in Music Theory - using Finale 2008.  The practice rooms will service students using both Finale 2008 and SmartMusic.

Does anyone have any affordable recommendations for purchasing about 15 keyboards?  Do you recommend that the teacher keyboard be any different/better?

Thanks!

M-Audio makes some inexpensive keyboards that should work.

I would talk to a dealer, i.e. a music store, since durability will be a factor.

I haven't been terribly impressed by the reliability of M-Audio keyboards. I owned an Oxygen 8, and after using it for about 2 years it just died, inexplicably. I am now using an Edirol PCR-M1 which I am totally happy with. Obviously the PCR-M1 is far too small for a classroom, but I would look into other Roland products.

Roland: yes. My A-30 MIDI Keyboard Controller is going strong after 13 years. M-Audio: no. My Audiophile USB/MIDI interface is a piece of junk after 0 years.
