I have just upgraded to 2009 from 2001 (I miss my 2001!). I am writing string orchestra music, and when I play back my composition, the Violin 1 part is playing back one octave lower than written. When I am feeding the notes in, it is sounding on pitch, so the problem must be with my midi set up. The other instruments are playing as written. Any thoughts?

Check the transposition setting. It should be set to "none."

Thanks. I've already fooled with the transposition in the staff attributes and the problem persists. I'll see if it happens on my next score.

If there is no transposition selected in staff attributes, make sure you're using the right clef. Clef #6 is the treble clef with the '8' under it which means it's gonna play back an octave lower.
