Does anyone use a USB foot pedal to control the playback of files in Finale? ie, play, pause, back & forward

If so can you tell me what brand & how successfull.

I was hoping to use the same pedal to also control Itunes.

Thanks
Robyn

It could probably be done, but it is not easy in finale. You would need to use Quickeys. QK4 can now use midi as a trigger so the pedal can trigger a sequence that would click the button on the transport or click your mouse and hit space. Itunes is easier as it just needs a spacebar, no clicks. But there is no native support that I know of for the pedal.

Oops, forgot we are on the windows side. QK4 is not out for PC yet, so no midi triggers. If the pedal registers as a device it would work, but I think most pedals would come up as midi, even if using USB.

I use a VPC foot pedal to control Transcribe! from Seventh String Software. I consider it invaluable for that program as it allows me to keep it in the background while transcribing recordings directly into Finale.

Neither Finale nor iTunes supports this type of pedal. In fact, Transcribe! is the only non-business program I know of that can use it.

Transcribe!:  Great program!!!  I don't know how I survived all those years trying to drop a needle in an LP groove just to pick out a song.  While tape was a step up, this software has almost everything you'll ever need.

And, yes, you can keep it running in the background while you enter the notes in Finale.

Hi,
To control Transcribe (and other soft) I use pedal which acts like a hardware keyboard, plus soft AutoHotkey. See staff.cesnet.cz/~michal/vms/pedal/eng.html .
This way probably any soft can be controlled.
