I recently purchased the academic version of Finale 2010 and am now experiencing some trouble with the basic playback controls. I own Notepad 2009, which has always been good, but the upgrade has started to confuse me.

Essentially, I can't figure out how to rewind/fast forward playback, pause music without it reverting to the beginning, or select a specific measure to begin playback from. I see all the arrows and buttons that Notepad uses for these functions, but they're usually gray and inaccessible. Is there something obvious I'm doing wrong?

Hi,
Go to the playback settings (the Speaker icon)
In the Playback Region setting (in the middle), choose the option 'current counter setting'

This is a bug. Doing what Francois suggests causes FF to work correctly, but the Stop/Play combination no longer takes you to measure 1, the way it's supposed to. If you turn off HP and check the "always start at measure 1" box, then all of the buttons work the way they are supposed to (including Pause)..... but then you don't have HP anymore. I wish MM would fix this problem.

I find that selecting "Use Current Settings" works well for beginning playback mid-piece. I prefer to set "Playback from Left Measure." "Chase from First Measure" seems to be broken. BTW, I *always* have HP turned on.
