I've had this problem with my copy of Finale 2008 for some time, but it's a quirky beast.

Certain fonts on my system (notably, some fonts that are not part of the default set you get with Windows) fail to properly reproduce under Finale - and ONLY Finale. Word-processing programs, image editing programs, and other software I use don't seem to have this problem. Here's the issue:

With any element that includes text (i.e. expressions, text blocks on the page, etc), I can select the font I want in the Font... dialog box, and it will display properly. However, upon hitting OK, Finale's display reverts to displaying whatever I entered in Arial or Times New Roman (dependent upon whether the original font is flagged as serif or sans-serif) - and will also print that way.

If I try to go back to the font dialog box to properly select the font I'm looking to use, I see "error selecting font" in the selection dialog, despite the fact that the font still displays properly in the list and is once again selectable.

I have tried checking the "Include printer-only fonts" box, and while this keeps it from displaying the "error selecting font" message, the actual font still never appears in the document and still will not print in anything other than Arial or Times New Roman.

Not all fonts have this problem, but it seems agnostic as to type (be it TrueType or openType) - it seems purely random which ones work and which ones won't. The fonts in question were purchased, professionally-produced, either from Adobe or from MonoType - so I'm less convinced that the font itself is the problem.

An interesting wrinkle is this: If I move the same file to another computer with the exact same font installed, it will curiously work - and if saved on that computer and transferred back to the original computer, the font will render properly until I try to change it.

Any ideas?

Finale does not claim to support openType fonts at this time. There's a KB article about it here:

Also, Finale doesn't support Unicode, so any characters beyond the standard 8-bit range probably won't show.

However, I use OT fonts with some success, though I can't access the full range of chars, and there are a few other glitches.

The issue doesn't seem to care if the fonts are openType or TrueType - I get the error regardless of whichever format the font in question is in.
