Finale 2012 is now available for purchase and download!

Check out the new features on the re-designed site and give Finale 2012 a try. The new demo version functions the same as the full version of the software, and will allow for saving and printing for 30 days plus use of the VST/AU engine.

I've seen that.

1) I sincerely hope that's not all there is.
2) Many of us are more interested in what's been fixed, not what's been added. Fixes are usually listed in the ReadMe.

Justin, the link to "Improved MIDI Instrument Setup" just takes you to the "Import and Export MIDI files" page!

I'm slightly confused; is the upgrade available for purchase via download only, or is there a DVD package available as well?

Hi Gareth,

The upgrade automatically allows for a download version. A DVD media kit (which also includes the printed version of the Quick Reference Guide for 2012) is available for $10 + shipping. You can add this on when you place the upgrade order if you want the DVD. If you want download only, you'll always have access to the download via your My Account at finalemusic.com (in the event of a re-install, installing on a second computer, etc).

Hi Gareth,

The upgrade automatically allows for a download version. A DVD media kit (which also includes the printed version of the Quick Reference Guide for 2012) is available for $10 + shipping.

So, how will this work if I want to buy from a UK distributor? Will I have an authorisation key, or similar?

You can order direct from a dealer as a download (their websites will be setup with a re-direct to us) or buy a physical disk from them once they are available (within a few weeks as we get physical stock out to our dealers). Check in with the specific dealer for more info.

We try and catch as many people's major wishes for each version as possible, but you can't please everyone. Unicode is long overdue, and was a massive undertaking for our engineering team (if you think about anywhere there's text in the program...). In addition, Finale has a brand new, modern audio engine under the hood on both Mac and Windows which should greatly improve Finale's audio handling and enable us to add better features as we progress.

I know a magnetic layout sort of feature was a big one for some, but in prioritizing, right now was not the time. That doesn't mean we're not listening or not interested, it means we want to make sure we're developing something that helps the users create amazing looking scores with the amount of control Finale is known for the right way.

Justin: I appreciate your effort and your response. I'm grateful for Finale's innovation, especially within the last 3 years. I'm just incredibly disappointed that magnetic layout was not in this release. I know several publishers/engravers that were waiting for this upgrade to see if they would switch back to Finale but I've already heard from one that he will be sticking with Sibelius purely for the time he saves with magnetic layout.

Finale 2012 looks great on many levels, but I will not be upgrading this year despite the fact that I've upgraded every year since 2003.

Mr. S,

And by no means are we not listening, it's incredibly important to us to have users who give passionate feedback. When we start looking at what to develop for future versions, the first place we go to is user feedback and the contact numbers from customer support. Unicode has been our top request, along with improved playback handling for many years now, so that got the major attention.
