I tried to insert measure stacks (I would prefer just the piano part, for an introduction, but will settle for all the parts--SAT and piano) on a separate page before the existing SAT-piano score. I don't want to modify the existing distribution of measures, and prefer the existing score to remain intact, with the vocal parts starting at the top of the page. Again, I would like to existing measure distribution to stand while I add an intro on a separate page before it.

As soon as I enter a stack (the intro is 7 measures), it takes up a page, and the parts still begin on the next page, but the first stack has an additional measure at the end, moved from the next stack, and so on through the piece. I tried locking the first stack, but it didn't work. Then I tried locking, inserting, unlocking, locking. I'm not positive I can replicate the steps I took. That worked, but I would think there's an easier way.

I did some research first, in the manual and Internet (that provided guides from Finale).

Did you try inserting a System instead of a measure stack?

Another option might be to do the piano page by itself, "print" both sections as PDF, and combine them after the fact.

The "easier" way is to do the piano score at the same time as the rest. Then, do your page layout, hiding extraneous staves as needed.

As I have said many times: if you work in scroll view and do your layout in page view only you are done entering the music, it will save a lot of headaches.

In this case, working in Scroll View will actually create the problem. Only in Page View can Systems be added. And that is the way to keep formatting beyond the point if insertion to remain as is.

Not if he had started in scroll view, with all the parts. The problem is, since he didn't, and is trying to add them in later, he has to do his backwards formatting in Page View.

It seems, from my reading of the original post, that the idea for the introduction came later, so now has to be added. Ideally, one would want to start with all the notation in proper sequence, but sometimes, that is not the case.

In any event, since the deed has been done, there is still the better option to insert ssystems instead of measures to keep the latter formatting.

By the way, since Finale added the ability to scroll pages, I am much less likely to use scroll view as in days of yore. For some projects, it is better, but for many, it is less desirable. That is especially true of single staff music or grand staff music. With page view, I can see many more measures than in scroll view.
