I have attached 3 pictures of note spacing issues. Often notes will be clumped together or grace notes will not completely be in the right measure. Its very irritating so if anyone knows of a solution or even a plug-in that automatically fixes it that would be great!

Also, I'm using Finale 2014. This issue is usually on all Finale documents I create. From what I've learned, deleting and re-pasting that specific measure fixes the issue but It's time consuming when I have to do it on all instruments in the score.

It's not clear from the examples you posted, but it looks like music spacing and update layout are not being applied. Can you post the document which these examples came from for others to check?

In the meantime, use the "Note Position Tool" in "Special Tools Palette" to quickly edit the mess. If you don't have the palette up in your toolbar, click on "Windows" -> Special Tools Palette. It's the first icon in the palette, a note with arrows pointing left and right.

Select the layer (bottom left corner of screen) -> click in the measure (handles will appear above stave ) -> click on a handle -> use Left and Right arrow keys to move the notes into correct place. This method is more expedient than using Speedy Entry Tool.

I'm sure the magician Zuill or one of the other good folks at this forum will figure out which setting you have for auto spacing is disabled. Click on "Document" (upper text menu) -> Document Options -> Music Spacing -> try my settings in the attached pic.

I too would only use the Note Position Tool as a last resort, and only sparingly.

I wouldn't advise using the Note Position Tool. Rather, find out why Finale is not spacing these examples properly. By default, these examples should look just fine - something is amiss.

Is this from a score or a single stave instrumental part? Are there too many measures per system that causes the crowding? You might want to unlock the layout and apply music spacing (select all and hit 4).

As Jetcopy suggests, a small example posted here would help in the troubleshooting process.

Maybe I should have underlined "In the meantime..." My intention was to help the poster with an option until someone else found a permanent solution. I thought my post adequately implied the option is only a temporary one. Of course using the Note Position Tool would not be an acceptable permanent fix.

Evidently some folks are willing to wait until they can solve such a problem. I prefer to use a workaround until finding out how to fix the problem. Is that really "madness"? If so, please accept my apology.

When I have just a couple occurrences of crowding or misplacement I will use the note mover tool.

I am guessing in the posted example, that applying spacing and updating layout is all that's needed. Beyond that, it all depends on the uniqueness od the situation, of which we are not privy.

The note mover tool is tedious at best, and does not replace music spacing, which also increases measure width if necessary. It was clear to me also from the posted examples that spacing is for some reason not working and that many measures are affected. To address that with the note mover tool does indeed seem like a bad way to go versus getting to the bottom of what's wrong. Since it's been a few days, as often happens here, I'm guessing the O.P. found the problem and moved on.
