Hello everyone,

I'm experiencing some odd behavior when I write grace note chords in finale 2012. The playback reads the single horizontal notes as multiple separate notes. For example, if I placed three grace notes vertically in front of a chord-a fairly common texture in the piano repertoire-finale plays the grace note grouping as three separate notes spaced slightly apart in time. I'm not entirely sure because it's hard to tell exactly what's going on, but it sounds like finale is playing the top-most note, then the two top-most notes, then all three notes together for some reason.

This isn't a local occurrence, it happens in new finale files that I create as well. I may have accidentally tampered with a setting somewhere. If anyone has any idea about what's going on, I would appreciate a fix.

can you post a file with the problem?

Finale (started with ver. 3.0) now using 2012 under Windows 8.1
basically ALL Garritan libraries, plus XSample Chamber Ensemble.

Interesting. The problem comes from the way Human Playback interprets this, although I don't know why. If you turn HP off, the problem disappears. If you really need HP for playback, you could just leave it off and apply the HP plugin to the measures where the grace notes don't occur.

I think I may have managed to pin it down to a more precise problem: in playback settings, under the midi data section, when start/stop time is set to no HP effect, the problem disappears. So it looks like HP is overruling the midi data as part of it's rubato and timing alteration procedures. In the case of these grace notes, it's causing them to be played separately.

Edit: I just listened to my piece performed by the romantic HP setting suite with that particular option turned off, and rubato appears to be preserved. I'm not sure how noticeable the change to start/stop time will be. Certainly, the grace note performance is drastically improved (it no longer sounds like a freakish, comical galloping effect).
