I have around 800-1000 coda music files with their respective tiff files in storage for reprints in a theory course
(a) With the current Finale 2003 edition, I cannot open the few I created with the Finale 2000a edition.
(b) With finale 2001 & 2002, is their any way to bring these 800 files up to the Finale 2003 format, apart from opening them one at a time and re-saving? Can they be done as a batch of files? If so how?
I eagerly await your reply.

John:
I maintain several versions of Finale on my computer and print from whatever version from which I made the file.
I currently have all versions from 97 to 200e except the 98 version. It was such a problem with the key disk that I updated all my files from that version.

Make a copy of all of your files before doing this, as with a large number of files you could run into memory problems.
Go into the Program Options and look at the options for Open. Uncheck "Open Older Documents as Untitled" and "Require Confirmation." Then go to File >> Open, highlight a bunch of them and open them all up. Then go to File >> Save All.
Could you send me some of those 2000a files that you are unable to open? I'm not aware of any issue like this, so I want to look into it. Send them to winsupport@codamusic.com.

The other thing you can do is drag a bunch of files from Windows Explorer and drop them on Finale.

I don't quite understand why you would need to convert all of your files at once. I just open them in the latest version whenever I need to and save them when I'm done doing whatever I'm up to. I've never found a reason to convert a file if I'm not going to open it anyway. If its a matter of file location, you can just copy/paste them outside of Finale.
