I am trying to get MIDI to work with Finale 2011, Windows 7, and have had no luck. I have a Korg midi keyboard and Lexicon Omega that I'm using for the MIDI interface. I don't think the issue is with the interface - I already talked to their tech support and it seems to be working OK.

I can't get any sound from the MIDI keyboard and the notation doesn't work either. What am I doing wrong? I read the manual on how to set this upand have no clue what they are talking about.

Thanks

Does the Lexicon Omega show up in the MIDI setup window in Finale? In the slot where it says Devices?

Are you plugging MIDI cables into the Omega (from the keyboard), or a USB cable?

The chain is MIDI from the Keyboard into the Omega then out from the USB on the Omega into the USB on the computer.

Make sure the MIDI cables are hooked up Out to In and In to Out. In other words, it might be that you have them reversed.

the cables are correct...I think it's a setting in Finale or something. I've used Finale for 10 years , but always used Speedy entry. Now I'm trying to use the MIDI option and not having much success setting it up.

In the Speedy Menu, have you chosen the option for MIDI Entry? Do you have MIDI Thru set to Smart?

It sometimes helps to delete the midi.ini file in the Makemusic folder. Quit finale, then go to: Hard drive (mostly C) --> User --> your account --> AppData --> Roaming --> Makemusic --> Finale2011
Locate the Finmidi file, delete it and start Finale. Finale will now detect your Midi devices again and set your preferences, maybe this works.

Important note: AppData is a hidden folder. If you don't see it, you have to check 'show hidden folders and files' (or something like that) under folder options. To do so, open a folder, right click on the menu-bar and select 'Folder options'.

Good luck

I don't use such devices, but I understand that they must be powered on and ready to go before launching Finale.

Some, but not all. Mine can be turned on after Finale is launched with no problem. But it is worth a try. I've never had trouble with MIDI hookup and Finale, so I have a hard time giving advice when someone can't get it to work.
