Why is the left side of the character (U+049) filled in? Gardner Read in 20th-Century Microtonal Notation says it shouldn't be. I think that the Make Music fonts should meet my needs, but they don't.

Use those with arrows. It is easier for musicians.

Finale 2009c now (works better than 2011c) on OS X 10.6.8 and not thinking to upgrade any more until both computers die completely (iMac 21', MacBook Pro 13').

The arrows are not advised because sometimes they give contradictory information (e.g., to raise a note that is flatted).

As the Engraver font set has various technical problems, I would be inclined to use the Bravura SMuFL reference font for all notational symbols that are outside the Maestro standard set.

I was not aware of SMuFL. This is awesome! Thanks for sharing.

Bravura is the font name. SMuFL is a new font standard which can be used by many different music font sets.

Dissonance, I would disagree. There is nothing contrary to see a flat and arrow up, you just do flat with a slight higher. I am performer of the contemporary music. I am also a composer of contemporary music. Much more difficulty is to LEARN new symbols. Trust me.

Derrek, there is port to Finale called Fravura. http://www.musegraph.com/fravura.html

After downloading Fravura-WN.b1, how do I install it?

I tried dragging it to my fonts folder, but Windows says it's not a font and won't install it.

Note that Fravura and Bravura are two different fonts.

Bravura is the SMuFL (Standard Music Font Layout) reference font** that contains thousands of music notation characters. www.smufl.org

Fravura is a small subset of Bravura characters, in a Maestro-compatible character set, so that you can use it as the Finale Music Default font. www.musegraph.com

Finale is "almost SMuFL compatible", except for two things: time sig numbers cannot be re-assigned to SMuFL character slots; also, the whole rest in Bravura sits lower than Finale expects and cannot be adjusted. However, the MakeMusic team are involved in the SMuFL project.

** Is there an echo in here? :p
