For years, I've been using PrintMusic 2006 on my old XP desktop. I often exchange files with a friend who has the same version of PrintMusic. He recently switched to a Windows 7 version of PrintMusic and I find I can no longer read the files he sends. I tried to load my version of PrintMusic onto my Windows 7 Pro laptop but wasn't able to do so. Has anyone been able to do this successfully?

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "a Windows & version of PrintMusic"? If you mean that your friend has upgraded to a more recent version of PrintMusic, then you will not be able to open files he sends you unless you also upgrade to the same version of PrintMusic. Installing your older version onto a Windows 7 machine will not solve the problem

Your OS shouldn't be a problem. I had full Finale on my Win7 laptop (now upgraded to Win10). As Gareth stated, you need to have either the same version or a later version of PM as your friend.

Hi John, Thanks for your reply. However, the setup fails when I run it. I'm using the original PM 2006 CD on my Windows 7 laptop as I mentioned. Are there any special steps I need to take to complete the setup?

Kind regards, Colin

Have you tried running the install as administrator?

Since it worked under XP, I would try running the setup in XP compatibility mode. (I think win7 referred to it as 'troubleshooting' when you right click on the icon).

Still somewhat confused here....maybe I'm to tired......., but if his friend is using a newer edition of Print music and he wishes to collaborate why does he not purchase Print music 2014?

Or as a final alternative (don't mention XML import/export), both run MuseScore which is highly capable and free.
