However, Reload MIDI Driver works if you are using MIDI. I'm not sure that it works if using Aria. I occasionally lose Aria playback, which is audio playback, as opposed to MIDI. In that case, simply restarting Finale is not enough. It requires a system re-boot.

Not to pile on, but I have to agree. To be fair, I do like working in Finale. I find that playback is much better in Finale 2014.5 than in previous versions that I've used, and I like some of the added features and fine-tuning of operations that I often use. But there are so many apparent bugs and their workarounds, the difference between workarounds and correct procedures for many operations seems indistinct. Arthur J. Michaels

I've found that over time (by itself, many hours, but much shorter if you have a lot of windows open), Finale can become something of a memory "hog". Even running all by itself, it can slowly expand and take over your cpu cycles quite effectively if you let it. (I just peeked into Task Mangler and see that Finale is using up nearly 70% of my memory, which doesn`t leave a lot for anything else.- like this note. Because restarting Finale (which I use with a whacking amount of vst`s) reduces the footprint substantially, I believe that the space is being held up by little automated bits and pieces (subroutines) which I use once, but are held in the volatile memory so as to be more quickly re-accessed a second, third or fourth time.
Since I discovered it, my little workaround has been to save (often), leave as few other apps open and running as possible, and at the first sign of trouble (usually an unexpected drop-out on playback), reboot Finale, which returns it to it`s original, much more compact footprint.
So far (fingers crossed), it has worked well, and although I lose a few minutes work every once in a while, I have yet to lose anything substantial. For what it`s worth. K M Frye
