So the thing is
I play Finale through VST
But every time I open Finale the playback is muted, and I have to do "MIDI/Audio > Play Finale Through MIDI" and then do "MIDI/Audio > Play Finale Through VST" again to get it working again.
This is a very large pain in the ass because every time I do that, my bank configuration with different instruments get set to default (e.g. Clarinet, which was previously assigned to bank 2, gets assinged to bank 1).
Also, it meddles with my Sound setup (e.g Violin, which previously had a "Violin Solo KS 2" sound would switch back to "Violin Solo KS," which is the default sound for Violin).
Plus I have a suspicion it's messing up my Mixer settings as well, but I'm not too sure about this yet.

OS - Windows 7 (64-bit)
Finale Version - Finale 2014
Device - Garritan Instruments for Finale
VST instrument- ARIA Player

I have never experienced this loss of volume and do not think it is common. Perhaps MM Support could help you troubleshoot it.

I am not totally surprised that switching to MIDI playback cancels your Aria assignments; have you considered saving your sound assignments in Aria as an Ensemble as a way to restore them if things go wrong?

You might resolve the problem you describe by creating a fresh template for your work. If you have custom articulations saved in a library file, you will need to delete all the standard articulations in your fresh template file before importing the library file with your custom articulations, otherwise the standard articulations in the new template library file will be duplicated.

You could try copying and pasting the the measures of the piece in a new template; but whatever bug you have in the problematic document are likely to be included. Still, I think it's worth a try.
