I tried exporting to epub and then using a shareware converter but it messed up the fonts. What are you guys doing?

I haven't done this in Finale, but have done it from a word processing document. Try either printing or exporting to PDF first, then convert the PDF to epub.

I would try print to PDF first, as it's what I usually do, not sure if it's easier.

Music (mostly) for Concert Bands
Community bands, School bands, Wind Symphonies

Kindle uses mobi, not epub but the conversion to mobi is problematic using calibre. I'm not sure what is out there that is better though.

Are you wanting to publish music to the Kindle? I don't think that's possible with epub/mobi, as you would need to embed the music fonts, which AFAIK is not possible. Your best bet might be pdf, but I don't know how well the Kindle handles those.

No, that's incorrect. I already did an experiment where I exported to epub from finale and then converted to mobi using calibre and the music looked fine. Unfortunately, the text didn't render properly. I got graphic characters in place of certain letters in the fonts of the title for example.

But yes, my goal is to sell a music book through the kindle store.

Isn't there already a Kindle tool for this? Especially if you are planning on selling through Amazon. I have used their tool on a text document, but not on a PDF graphical document like music.

If this is for your own use, you may want to experiment with mailing the PDF to the Kindle. I've not tried it with a PDF, but it may make for more flexible viewing on the Kindle.


From the Kindle Manual

To locate your Send-to-Kindle E-mail address, from the Home screen tap the Menu button and select Settings.
On the Settings page, tap Device Options and select Personalize Your Kindle.
Your e-mailed personal documents will be backed up in your Kindle Library and ready to download
at any time when Personal Document Archiving is enabled.

I there is a PDF option there with some instructions. Not on that page, but definitely among their options.
