I appreciate your mentioning this, but don't you think that, out of respect for Make Music's hosting of this forum, this kind of post is a little out of place and way off topic?

After all, if you're invited to dinner, you praise your host's efforts. Not the dinner you had last month at someone else's place.

Just my 2¢.

Thank you for your post but ignorance, or lack of knowledge, is usually not viewed as a good thing. However, there may be certain situations where one is happier not knowing the truth.
There is an expression to describe these situations: Ignorance is bliss.

MuseScore is way behind Finale. I don't think there is any conceivable threat in terms of matching Finale. It would be like mentioning you had lunch at McDonald's when you're eating at a fancy French restaurant. No comparison.

Not trying to compare with Finale or Sibelius. Hope it was not taken that way!

Just an FYI others (MuseScore) are out there that are starting to beat upon Notion and Encore and some other "lower grade" paid for notation programs.
MuseScore though is an acceptable program for those who lack funds, or a High School student or even undergraduate music student who has no or very little funds to purchase outright either Finale or Sibelius.

It might be a threat to the low-end MM products, I suppose.

When I first started, I used something called Igor Engraver because it was free. Big mistake, big waste of time.

Considering that MakeMusic also distributes lesser programs (other than Finale), I think this post is completely out of place.

Finale (started with ver. 3.0) now using 2012 under Windows 8.1
basically ALL Garritan libraries, plus XSample Chamber Ensemble.

As a trivial example, I often recommend Finale Notepad for beginning students. (Now that it's free again.) I used Notepad for years then MM offered me a deal on Finale which I accepted. Notepad has more capability (for my composing) than any other free program.

I believe knowledge is power. What do we have to fear? open discussion of other programs on this forum has led to many good conversations of what can be. It has probably even led to improvements in Finale because of it.

Zuill

P.S.: I have MuseScore installed, and after reading the article, I opened MuseScore and realized that I didn't have the latest update. I have associates who have MuseScore, so I need it to help them. Every time I use it, I appreciate even more what a fine program Finale is. There are so many limitations in MuseScore. It's also obvious that many of its features are, of course, copied from Finale and another un-named program. I will say that I nudge my colleagues who use MuseScore toward Finale, as I let them know all the things they can't do in MuseScore they can in Finale.

There are plenty of posts on this forum from paying guests, questioning the host's culinary skills.
