Hello, dear people!

Again I am here asking for help. Namely, I need to notate a choral work where a composer sometimes wants to group a phrase over the measure bar. It could be quite easily done with broken beams (16th beams actually) but the score I got (probably MuseScore) is much more readable to a singer, I must admit.

Now, of course here is a question: "Is there a possibility to join beams over measure bar?"

You can use special tools/beam extension tool to drag a beam over a barline.

Another option is to enter all of the notes in a single bar. (even if that means exceeding the time signature) Then use special tools note mover to drag the notes over the barline, into the next measure. You would also need to hide the beats in the next measure so everything looks correct to the eye.

In my screen shot, all of the 8th notes were entered in the 1st measure, then dragged to the 2nd. A quarter note rest on beat 1 of measure 2 is hidden.

wouldn't it be simpler to use the "Beam over barline" plugin?

Finale (started with ver. 3.0) using 2012 (2014 has been shelved for its lack of support for older Garritan libraries) under Windows 8.1
basically ALL Garritan libraries, plus XSample Chamber Ensemble.

Hello!

Thank you for your replies, both Jetcopy and Michel.

Now, I like to comment on this because it's a bit strange, how Finale does not allow ' in Simple Edit or / in Speedy.

Special Tools, Beam Extension also does things like this:

or this:

The other solution of Jetcopy (moving a note across the barline) is a possible solution but I need to make a MIDI file too which would bring rhythmic inconsistecies.

So I was relieved when Michel pointed out I missed Patterson's plugins...

Still there's a strange look of the solution in Finale program:

That would not like nice if I wanted to make a video tutor

And it comes out that if I print it out or make a graphic there I get a proper solution...

Just for teasing - I do like Finale (or am I used to it?) - MuseScore does the same with simple drag and drop action:

And of course: a disclaimer - I only use Finale 2011b.r2. I don't know how does it behave in the later versions...

Anyway, thank you! This is the best forum in the whole wide world. You get solution while you say Jack Robinson :)

The display is caused by a View setting:
