|My Italian isn't much (and experts please correct me if I'm wrong), but I think "uno solo" ("one alone") is entirely proper and you have nothing to be ashamed about in writing "1. solo." As DCrocker says, you can abbreviate it "solo" since due, tre, etc. would be "soli," but writing it out for clarity for non-Italians without a strong sense of inflection seems fine.|
In 19th-century Italian opera, where "gran cassa" typically means not only bass drum but bass drum and cymbals together, they sometimes write simply "sola" in the part when they want the drum alone, or "soli" for cymbals alone, since the ending implies which is meant, but "cassa sola" or "piatti soli" aren't wrong.
