I feel very inadequate right now.  This question seems rather elementary compared to the other postings but, here it is anyway.  How do you change time signatures and clefs within a composition?  I'm afraid I need the simplest explanation possible.

It all depends on which product you are using. In Notepad, I don't believe you can. In Finale, merely go into the tool for that which you want to change and double click on the measure in which you want it to take effect. Set the options in the dialogue box and you've made a change.

Dian-El,

If you are using Finale NotePad, you cannot change the clef, but you can change the time signature.  To change the time signature, go to the main tool palette, and click on the icon which has a picture of a staff with a 4/4 time signature on it. A menu will then pop up, giving you options for the key signature.

For PrintMusic, Allegro, and Finale, you can change the clef, and the key signature, but with more options.  To change the clef, go to the main tool palette again, and click on the icon with a picture of a staff with a treble cleff on it.  Then double-click on the measure that you want to change the clef for.  It is pretty easy from there.  For the time signature, click on the same icon as in NotePad, and double-click the measure that you want to apply the time signature change.  The rest of this is also easy to figure out.

P.S.

Don't feel bad about asking a question, no matter how dumb you might think it is.  There are a lot of great people on these forums who can answer almost any question you might have about Finale.
