Its listed in the "Interface Changes" section of Finale 2014d online docs.

And I guess "Utilities > Check Notation > Check Accidentals" functionality has been replaced by something else that I just cannot find?

I can't find a mention of 2014.5. Where is it?

They removed Check Accidentals in 2014 because the paradigm for accidentals has been revamped, thus eliminating the need for that feature.

Go to the Contents Tab, click on Finale 2014 Interface Changes. It pops up with links to interface changes in versions 2014.5, 2014d, 2014a, 2014, and a menu reference chart for 2012 vs 2014.

I just did a Check for Updates, and it says 2014d is the most recent update, and I have that. So, what's up with 2014.5?

It would be reasonable to think that since the two plugins are still present in 2014d, they will be gone when 2014-5 is officially released as, posssibly, 2014e. We probably weren't supposed to see that.

I have never looked at the Command Line plug-in before now.  I cannot seem to find any documentation on it other than the cryptic help at the bottom.  It is an interesting alternate way to enter notes, though probably it gets little use.  I think I will squirrel it away so I can come back and explore it more.

I don't see any 2014.5 in the list of Interface Changes. I suppose it's possible that someone at MM accidentally posted a version of the manual that is being worked on.

If they are working on a package that truly resolves many of the bugs and other changes that have caused so many people to run away from 2014, it is a wise move to brand it as "2014.5" to separate it from the very poor reputation that 2014 has (deserved or not). This seems like a wise move to me, but if they release a "2014.5" it really must clear up all those objections.

They could start by getting HP to work as well as it did at 2012 and fixing the bugs they introduced in the cautionary accidentals plug-in at 2014 (OK that last one is a pet peeve, but the HP stuff is really structural).

As long as Change Noteheads is available via the Change menu, I am not concerned about the potential loss of the plug-in.

Greetings all,

We recently published an updated version of the User Manual that unintentionally included the information described in this thread.

As previously announced, our goal for Finale development going forward is to increase quality and improve user experience. Finale 2014.5, the next incremental update to Finale 2014, will continue our work toward modernizing Finale and improving its performance. We haven’t set a release date for the update, but already our development team has fixed numerous defects and are making use of the data collection we implemented in 2014d.

I’ve rolled back the online user manual to remove the information. While the release isn’t quite ready yet, rest assured that we’re well on our way to making Finale better than ever.

While I appreciate MM's "data mining" abilities with the "d" update I believe I also remember that it was stated that features would not be changed or removed just on the results of the data collection alone? Has this now been ignored?

I liked certain other plugins that since I have F2012c I transferred dropped (discontinued folder) plugins to F2014.
Like my "Composer’s Assistant Plug-ins" folder.

The feeling I get is due diligence to any statement like the caveat with data collection decisions will fall away.

Zuill, the online manual is working for me in Chrome on Windows. Does it display correctly if you refresh the cache (CTRL+F5)?

Again, you may have to clear your cached version of the manual. If it still appears, you can clear the entire stored cache in Chrome by following these steps:

  • Click the "Customize and control Google Chrome" button on the toolbar.
  • Choose More Tools > Clear browsing data.
  • In the dialog box, ensure that Cached images and files is selected.
  • Click Clear browsing data.

Sounds like someone in MM's documentation section is saving to the external web instead of to MM's in-house LAN.
