Hi.
I have a question about fretboards in Finale 2005b.
Is it possible to place chord diagrams in a document created with "Chord editor" without enabling the "Show fretboards" in the chord menu?
I do not want to enable this feature, because (in my experience) it will show fretboards for every chord in the entire document.

The reason I want to do this, is because I want to list all the used chords with explanations after the song. Until now I have been using the Shape expression designer for this job.

Chord>Show Fretboards has to be checked to globally show fretboards, but you can hide certain fretboards in a few different ways.

1 For you, hiding all the fretboards except those at the end is fastest if you select the range of measures you want to effect with the Mass Edit tool, go to Mass Edit>Change>Chord Assignments, and uncheck the fretboards checkbox under "show"

2. Individual chords can be hidden if you select Manual Input, and double-click on a chord handle to bring up the Chord Definition box, which also has a show fretboard checkbox for that chord. You can enter new chords without fretboards if you use Manual input instead of one of the other methods.

Thank you! This works!

But the fretboards are a little small. In Document Options I have defined Fretboards to use Seville 55pt, but when I create the fretboards, they appear much smaller. Changing the size to something completely different does not have any effect on their size either.

Are you using the Resize Fretboards in the Chord Tool menu?

Yes, I am aware of this funktion. If I set Global Fretboard Persent to 150, the fretboard is as big as Seville 55pt . So I can use this one, if you think this is the best way to do it.

I think there is a common misunderstanding abouit the font setting for Seville. I don't know if this may be different in Mac or not, but this setting only applies if you choose to use the Seville font for your chords. If you are creating custom fretboards, then that setting generally does not apply. In your chord definition for the fretboard, if Use Fretboard Font is unchecked, than this setting is irrelevant.

OK, so I keep on using this 150 Global Fretboard Percent.

One last question:
In the fretboard Editor, when I write a chord in 1. position, the lowest fret shows (the nut?) as a thick line. If I activate the 'Show Fretboard Number' (for example Number 4) , the lowest fret is a thin line.

We can say this is right according to the shape of the guitar, but maybe it doesn't look so good on paper. Any comments on this?

If the top line of the frame is a fret, rather than the nut, I prefer it to be thin.

OK, and how can I get a thin line when 'Show Fretboard Number' is not activ?

In the chord definition box, click "Edit Styles" and set the nut thickness the same as the fret thickness.

Thank you!

This really helped me finding some new ways in Finale.

Best wishes.
