I have a number of VST's on my Mac that I use with other software. One of which is a Steinberg product (The Grand 2) that requires a USB dongle (Syncrosoft Licence Key). However, I don't need to use this plugin with Finale... and the plugin asks me to insert the dongle everytime Finale launches. This is considerably annoying since I don't want to carry the dongle around just to use Finale. I can click cancel to skip, but doing this often crashes Finale. Uninstalling the VST is not an option. Is there a way to make Finale skip the "initialzing plugins" process on launch?

Thanks for your help.

I would open Finale and then go to the MIDI/AUDIO menu -->Device Setup -->Manage AU Plugins. make them all inactive and then close Finale...next time it will not scan those. Try that and see if that helps.

I can't seem to find that menu. Does it exist in 2007 and/or 2008?

I don't believe there is a Device Setup/Manage AU plugins on the MIDI/AUDIO menu in Finale 2007 0r 2008. However, there is a simple solution. Go to:

http://www.audiofile-engineering.com/audiounitmanager/

where you can download Audio Unit Manager, a free utility that allows one to turn plugins on and off - - and create sets for different applications. It works (at least for me) without any problems and solves this problem.

Stephen,

Great link. Thanks for posting that.

Mpagz,

Sorry I thought I read that you had 2009. I have 2009 on the brain I guess. The feature I was talking about started with 2009.
