I have F2006 and just upgraded from a PPC Mac to Intel Mac. PPC apps are supposed to open with Rosetta, but I haven't found a way to make F2006 do it. There should be an "open with Rosetta" check box in the Info window, but there isn't. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Derek

There will only be an "open with Rosetta" tickbox for a Universal Binary that contains source for both Intel and PPC. Did you reinstall Finale, or migrate it?

I'm not sure whether 2006 is PPC only or Universal.

Either way, I would recommend upgrading to a newer version. There are many many improvements and changes that will make things easier and faster, as well as being more compatible with newer machines and OSes.

Hi Derek,

It is easy: I pass through the same problem 2 years ago.

The solution:
Download "Rosetta"
or
Insert your Install DVD (Snow Leopard) and during install operation check Rosetta ONLY and this will install it.
Then reinstall Finale 2006 (probably with "D" update).
Thus I suspect it is going to work well.
2006 is quite well working Finale. I used it for 4 years on PC and MAC.

Best regards,
Wess

Rosetta is needed only for the installation, right?

Not only, you MUST have it already installed to be able to RUN Finale 2006.

There are many known problems of using older versions of Finale with OS X 10.6. Running under Rosetta emulation will be slow.

Also note that Rosetta will not be available in the next OS version: 10.7 (Lion), released later this year. So you will need to upgrade Finale if you install Lion.

The "large upgrade" fee is very reasonable, particularly for large jumps between versions.

A little off-topic but Wiggy's remark reminded me: I just installed Rosetta on my new laptop because I needed to run my two smaller members of the Fontographer family, TypeTool and SigMaker, neither of which is universal binary. Both therefore require Rosetta to run. I really hope they're planning to release versions which will run on OS 10.7. Does anyone know anything about this?

Vaughan, you are best asking FontLab directly what they plan to do about it.

I deliberately chose not to install Rosetta when I upgraded to Snow Leopard, using it as an opportunity to check that all my apps were Intel. But as FontLab has a 'virtual' monopoly on font tools, there is no choice. However, I am surprised that their code is not even Universal. They've had six years!!!

I know. I was surprised, too. They are the only two programs I have left which aren't universal.
