Thanks Zuill,

Maybe I need to give it bit more time. I've been ranting on Facebook about the changes, so at least I've blown off some steam somewhere. lol

And I upgraded from a physical DVD rather than download, so maybe the suppliers shipped me a copy from a while back. The update checker is telling me to download 2012a. Will have to get my authorisation fixed (I think my serial number is authorised on a now dead email address/makemusic account).

But yes, I'll give it a bit of time and see if this Score Manager grows on me. And if it doesn't, then I'll send some stern words to tech! :p

James

I dealt with this with Makemusic - they provided a solution, it works for me. A bit fiddly, but it works.

I involves changing to a "new instrument" (doesn't matter which really) and then, in Score Manager clicking the little triangle next to the default instrument's name and manually changing the name (and transposition) of the "new instrument".

If you have a Reed book that uses Flute, Alto Flute and Tenor Sax (you just repeat this as many times as needed). it worked for me, quite well.

Please let me know if you'd like MakeMusic's written solution to this and I'll see if I can't post it here.

Thanks diz,

I guess my frustration comes from the fact that the process is now more complicated than it was on Finale 2011. In Fin11 I just use the staff tool to select the area where I want a change to occur and then hit a metakey associated with the transposition/instrument that I want. It's a two-step process and it worked fine. Perhaps the integration into the ScoreManager/Instrument List is aimed at improving playback experience, but for me that's really not a high priority. My goal is to make error-free sheet music in very little time. I'm not too fussed about how it sounds.

I contacted MakeMusic and they said that they've been getting a fair bit of feedback about the need for transpositions to return to Staff Styles, and it has been submitted as a feature request for future updates.

Fingers crossed.

Crikey, MakeMusic have listened!

Looks like transpositions have returned to staff styles in the Finale 2012b update.

In fact, you can do it both ways now. One gets a choice.
