In Finale 2014 (and probably 2012?), how do I get a percussion layout to auto-update AFTER I add that note to the staff's percussion map? It works fine if I add an instrument to the map first - say, large tom-tom - and then play that MIDI note. It goes right on the staff where I mapped that key/patch. But if I've already entered the note on the staff (like, I enter the music into an unmapped staff), THEN add the MIDI note(s) to the percussion map, the previously entered note remains where it was on the staff (and with an orange note head).

I've stayed with Finale 2008 for this long just because I hate how Finale changed percussion mapping (and I still think this system is a screwy way to do this), but it seems like I need to get over it and figure this out...

Never mind - figured it out. One has to select the old music and "Transpose Percussion Notes" from the Utilities menu, manually re-assigning all "orange" notes.

Another quick way that sometimes works is Retranscribe. Have you tried that?
