This sometimes happens to me: I double click a file to launch Finale 2014a, which then hangs so I have to force quit and try again. Repeating the process exactly, next time it starts OK. This is just as likely to happen with a small file newly created as with a large one originally from an earlier version.

Any ideas of the cause?

Attached is the report as a text file.

Not a clue, mainly because I use Windows. However, there are known bugs in 2014 in Windows (maybe not Mac) connected with opening a file directly by clicking on it, or even from the launch window. The only sure way to avoid these is by opening Finale first. That has been my workflow for years anyway. I just feel it gives Finale a chance to load all it needs to load first. Also, since I have several versions of Finale on my system, it assures that I am in the version I want to be in.

David:

How far does it get in loading before it hangs? Is it right away when you double click the file? Does it get to the splash screen or past that?

While I certainly expect that you should be able to launch Finale by double clicking a file, it would be interesting/helpful to know if you ever get this same behavior if you launch the program first and then try to open the file.

Finale 2014 is highlighted in the top menu bar, but nothing else happens on screen. In activity monitor Finale is shown as 'not responding'.

I don't recall that this has ever happened when Finale was already running.

Same here. No splash page. Subsequent paunches eventually brought it back. I deleted the plist and thought that fixed it, but Finale still hung - this time with the splash page - and eventually started.
